Birthday Girl Buys Local Cops Lunch After Seeing Dallas Shooting On TV

Samya McLaughlin, 9, spent her birthday money on the heartwarming gesture.

A 9-year-old girl in Detroit used her birthday money to buy lunch for her local cops after seeing coverage of the Dallas shooting on television.

Samya McLaughlin showed her support for officers at the city’s 11th Precinct on Saturday by bringing them a bunch of bagged meals.

I was thinking that I should feed the officers because I wanted to show them that I support them and I thank them for all that they do,” the youngster told WWJ Newsradio 950. “I wanted to show them that all lives matter.”

Samya treated each officer to a sandwich, some fruit, a cookie and chips.

The police showed their gratitude by pinning her with a “special badge” and presenting her with an “Officer of the Day” certificate.

WWJ reporter and anchor Jason Scott posted photographs and video of the girl’s heartwarming gesture and the officers’ equally endearing response to Twitter. They are now going viral.

According to the girl’s mother, Samya decided to do something special for the police after watching news coverage of the horrific Dallas shooting ― which left five officers dead and additional officers and civilians wounded ― with her grandmother.

“It makes you feel proud,” Samya’s father, Sam Walker, told WWJ — adding that his daughter has “a big heart” and “knows how to appreciate what’s going on.”

The girl’s extraordinary gift-giving didn’t end there, however. She also spent the rest of her birthday cash on 30 more bagged meals, which she later handed out to the homeless.
