Of course 13 would be Meredith Grey's lucky number. Once dark and twisty, always dark and twisty.

Ellen Pompeo has signed a new contract to return to "Grey's Anatomy" for Season 13, Deadline first reported. Remember when Denny was a ghost? That was SEVEN seasons ago. "Grey's Anatomy" is so old it could have its own bat mitzvah.

Season 12 of the long-running medical soap has been somewhat of a creative and critical resurgence, becoming ABC's highest-rated series in key demographics. As the only remaining lead actor on the series (R.I.P. McDreamy), Pompeo now stands to become one of the highest-paid actresses on TV, reportedly earning more than $300,000 per episode.

Pompeo is the first of the remaining original cast members to officially renew contracts for the upcoming season, although Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are all expected to return. Sara Ramirez, however, exited the series in May after playing Dr. Callie Torres for 10 seasons.

TGIT will outlive us all.
