Tracy Morgan Shares 'Weird' Twist Of Fate That Happened Before His Accident

In the immediate aftermath of Tracy Morgan's near-fatal car accident, his then-fiancée, Megan, had no idea he was laying in a hospital bed, in a coma, suffering from a severe brain injury and broken bones throughout his face. She was in the dark for five hours.

That's what the recovering comedian told Oprah during an interview for "SuperSoul Sunday" over the weekend, describing Megan's immense strength from the moment she learned his limousine was hit from behind by a Wal-Mart truck on the New Jersey turnpike.

"What she went through, getting that call at 6 o'clock in the morning? She's still bitter about that -- the police called the media before they called her," Tracy says. "I got hit at 12:59. She didn't know I was in the hospital in a coma until 6 in the morning."

The crash killed Morgan's longtime friend and fellow comedian, Jimmy Mack, and when Megan arrived at the hospital to see Tracy's condition for herself, she was taken to the ICU.

"She thought she was gonna get there and I was gonna have a broken leg, making the nurses laugh," Tracy tells Oprah. "They said, 'No, Ms. Morgan, are you prepared?'"

She was not.

"She flipped," Tracy says. "I asked her [later], 'Baby... how did I look?' She said, 'Dead.'"

For the two weeks Tracy was in the medically induced coma, Megan -- whom he married in 2015 -- remained by his side. Strangely, Morgan says, it was a scenario that the two had just talked through hypothetically not long before the crash took place.

"What was weird was two months before the accident, I did my will," Tracy says. "I made her my health proxy... They said, 'If you're on life support, who do you want to make that decision?' I looked at my wife. I said, 'My wife. Nobody else. My wife.' Two months later, look what happened."

Megan did indeed make health decisions for Tracy, who profoundly appreciates the strength and fortitude she showed while doing so.

"She told the doctors 'no' a few times," Tracy says. "'No, you're not putting a hole in my husband's neck. He's an entertainer.' The next day, I started breathing on my own."

Having now made it through many of the hardest parts of his recovery, Tracy has a renewed perspective on life, family and earnest gratitude.

"I'm glad I'm here, I'm glad my wife is over there," he says, gesturing to Megan. "Everything is wonderful."
