In the age of unnecessary reboots and revivals, the prospect of seeing a new "Legends of the Hidden Temple" on our TV screens again has got us (mildly) excited.
As part of a presentation on the channel's new slate of original programming, Nickelodeon announced that the series will be resurrected as a two-part live-action TV movie. Described as "mirroring the theme of the original game show," the movie will follow three siblings as they face a series of obstacles to stay alive.
The original "Legends of the Hidden Temple," which allowed '90s teens to act out their deepest "Indiana Jones" fantasies, aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from 1993 to 1995. The series was structured around both mental and physical challenges, in which teams -- Red Jaguar forever, BTW -- would compete to acquire a "historical" artifact per the instructions of a talking Olmec head and down-low hottie, host Kirk Fogg.
It was awesome and if you haven't seen it, your middle-school self would've been all over it.
According to Variety, Nickelodeon star Isabela Moner of “100 Things to Do Before High School” will star, with Joe Menendez directing and Jonny Umansky, Zach Hyatt, and Alex Reid penning the script. The reboot is expected to debut later this year.
