Londoners were caught off guard on Sunday morning when a bus was blown up on one of the English capital's bridges.

The iconic double decker was exploded on Lambeth Bridge for Jackie Chan's new movie, "The Foreigner," reports the Independent.

But unsuspecting residents were initially freaked out by the blast, with some believing it was a terrorist attack. Even the National Police Air Service was taken by surprise:

Warning signs had been placed around the bridge and local residents received letters detailing the planned stunt beforehand, Conservative lawmaker Nigel Huddleston told Sky News.

"But given the size of the explosion I'm sure many tourists and some locals must have been worried," he said. "Twitter worked pretty well in clarifying it was for a film pretty quickly. But not everyone is on Twitter."

He later sought to calm nerves by posting this video of the detonation on Twitter. "Anyone worried about the exploding bus on Lambeth Bridge just now? It was just for a movie," he wrote.

The controlled and heavily supervised detonation, which sent flames soaring high up into the sky, put many on edge, including author Sophie Kinsella:

The Port of London Authority said the bridge was closed for the controlled explosion and, reports the BBC, the London Fire Brigade was on standby in case anything went wrong.

"The Foreigner" is a "gritty action based thriller" based on Stephen Leather's book "The Chinaman," according to the notice warning issued to residents.

It also stars former "James Bond" actor Pierce Brosnan and is being directed by Martin Campbell, who was behind the 007 movies "Casino Royale" and "GoldenEye."
