Over the past six seasons, a veritable who’s who of the comedic world -- including Louis C.K., Will Ferrell, Sarah Silverman, Larry David and Chris Rock -- has joined Jerry Seinfeld for a ride and a cup of joe in the Crackle series “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee."
But Seinfeld took a detour from tradition in the season 7 premiere, which debuted on Wednesday night. Instead of the typical jokester, the actor welcomed an elected official to the program, none other than President Barack Obama.
Following the show’s model of riding around in a vintage car before having a chat over coffee, the episode showed Seinfeld and the commander-in-chief cruising around the White House driveway in a 1963 Corvette Stingray.
Yes, that's Obama driving in circles around his front lawn -- likely one of the rare occasions during his two terms in office that he found himself behind the wheel of a vehicle.
For the “coffee” segment of the show, the duo retired to a dining room in the basement of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for a tête-à-tête. There, the president opened up about his obsession with nachos, his underwear preference and his experience living in the White House. (Naturally, POTUS also managed to also sneak in a plug for Obamacare.)
Speaking about the experience of just kicking it with the leader of the free world, Seinfeld said he was overwhelmed by the opportunity.
“Growing up in the '60s, my kid dream was always to be an astronaut -- doing a comedy show with President Obama in and around the White House felt like going into space,” Seinfeld said in a statement. “‘How did I get here?’ ‘Is this really happening?’ The president's humor and generosity are the only reasons this was even possible.”
“Being president and just a cool guy to hang out with at the same time made the experience my own personal moonwalk. It was an unforgettable day,” Seinfeld added.
This isn't the first time Obama has made an appearance on an online comedy show. Last year, POTUS was a guest on Zach Galifianakis’ “Between Two Ferns,” and in June, he chatted with comedian Marc Maron on the “WTF” podcast.
