Jon Stewart Channels Donald Trump To Get Congress To Pay Attention

Former "Daily Show" host Jon Stewart on Thursday continued his streak of late-night TV appearances promoting the renewal of a bill in Congress meant to aid 9/11 first responders. Stewart joined "The Late Show's" Stephen Colbert to speak about the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act.

The bill was first enacted five years ago to help cover medical expenses for first responders who developed health issues related to their service. The act expired in October, and hopes of renewal have been squelched by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) for what Stewart calls "purely political reasons."

Stewart on Thursday began another impassioned monologue, but Colbert cut him off, saying, "Nobody's going to pay attention unless you Trump it up a little." Stewart then donned a wig reminiscent the GOP presidential candidate's coif. Colbert added a bit of Cheetos dust to complete the effect before the real pitch began.

"These 9/11 first responders, let me tell you something, these 9/11 first responders are the most top-notch, first-class, diamond-encrusted heroes America can produce," Stewart said. "I will build a wall around politics and I will make politics pay for it."

Stewart urged viewers to hop on social media using the hashtag #WorstResponders to urge Congress to add the Zadroga Act to an upcoming omnibus bill.

The appearance marked the second time this week Stewart returned to late-night television. On Monday, he joined "The Daily Show" host Trevor Noah following a disheartening visit to Capitol Hill, where he tried to convince holdout congressmen to support Zadroga.
