Stan Wawrinka is calling on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) to punish Nick Kyrgios after a hot mic caught the 20-year-old Australian tennis pro's appalling comments about Wawrinka's girlfriend, 19-year-old tennis player Donna Vekić.

The comment came during the pair's second-round matchup at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada. A courtside microphone picked up Kyrgios saying, "Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate."

He was referencing fellow Australian tennis player Thanasi Kokkinakis, who was rumored to have dated Vekić in 2013.

The comments happened in the second set of their match, which resulted in a score of 6-7, 6-3, 4-0 with Wawrinka retiring in the third set due to injury.

When asked about his comment after the match, Kyrgios was unapologetic, even going so far as to defend himself.

"He was getting a bit lippy with me," he said, according to the BBC. "Kind of in the heat of the moment, I don't know, I just said it."

Kyrgios' mother even weighed in, using Twitter to shockingly endorse her son's behavior, tweeting on Thursday: "A sledge for a sledge ... do your research before piping up like sheep! #moaners."

She has since removed her account, however, various outlets, including the BBC, took a screen shot of the jab.

This summer has been full of controversy for the hotheaded Kyrgios. At Wimbledon in July, he threatened to quit in the middle of a match over a disagreement with the chair umpire.

Five days later, upset with a different umpire after being warned about swearing, he actually did quit in the middle of his Wimbledon match against Richard Gasquet. Fans in attendance didn't take kindly to Kyrgios' decision, so they booed his ass until he got back on the court to finish the match, which he eventually lost in four sets.

Less than two weeks later, in his next match against Aleksandr Nedovyesov in a Davis Cup tie, Kyrgios repeatedly screamed, "I don't want to be here," after losing a tiebreaker in the third set. He celebrated his eventual loss to Nedovyesov by smashing all of his rackets.

Wawrinka made light of Kyrgios' July incidents in a post-match interview with BBC on Wednesday.

"It's not the first time that he has big problems on court in terms of what he says and in terms of how he acts," he said. "I hope the governing body does not stand for this."

ATP vice president Graeme Agars confirmed that Kyrgios will be fined in an email to The Huffington Post. Here's the organization's response in full:

The ATP has announced that Nick Kyrgios has been fined for an insulting remark made to Stanislas Wawrinka during his second round match against Wawrinka at the Rogers Cup in Canada. Further details‎ on the fine will be made after the player has been notified.

In a not-so-surprising move, Kyrgios posted an apology for the incident after the statement was released.

"I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the comments I made during the match last night vs Stan...
