Can you eat more than 36 and three-quarters hot dogs in ten minutes?
We didn't think so.
That's the number of hot dogs that Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas ate at the 2013 Nathan's hot dog eating contest in Brooklyn on the Fourth of July, winning the women's event by exactly three-quarters of a hot dog over Juliet Lee for her third consecutive Nathan's victory.
In addition to being a totally awesome and efficient hot dog eater, a trailblazer for hungry women, and a rather private person, Thomas is a lives just outside the nation's capital.
Check out some photos of our favorite Northern Virginia-based speed-eating champ -- Thomas lives in Alexandria; read Northern Virginia Magazine's great 2012 profile for more details on this thoroughly interesting eater's life:
Since you're wondering, Thomas doesn't hold the world record for hot dog eating, but she does hold records for many, many other contests. Some examples: Crab cakes (46 in ten minutes), soft-shell lobster (44 in twelve minutes), hard-boiled eggs (65 in six minutes, 40 seconds) and pickled jalapenos (250.5 in nine minutes).
And she's not Northern Virginia's only impressive record-holder. Svetlana Pankratova, the woman with the world's longest legs, is in Falls Church, while the world's biggest breasted woman Annie Hawkins-Turner -- stage name Norma Stitz -- lives in Arlington.
