Savory Ramen Chocolate Is Actually Delicious

And it was surprisingly delicious!

When we come across an unusual food item like savory ramen chocolate, we're bound to have a reaction. And usually it's not a good reaction. We can expect anything from a grimace to a very loud "oh-dear-god-why" exclamation. But at the same time -- regardless of this survival instinct -- the food editors at HuffPost Taste also react by knowing we have to try it. If only just to know.

While this instinct has often times lead us astray -- like when we just had to try ranch dressing soda (which some of us are still recovering from) -- in the case of the savory ramen chocolate bar by Komforte Chockolates, we were pleasantly surprised. Not only did we like it, we really liked it.

We didn't think it was possible to add ramen noodles, soy sauce, garlic and onion to dark chocolate without destroying the beauty that is chocolate, but Komforte Chockolates has shown us the light. When it comes to chocolates, anything is possible.

Here's what our editors thought:
  • "Ramen chocolate rules. Nails the salty/sweet balance and the crunch of the noodles is excellent. I APPROVE."

  • "The ramen actually gives you some quality umami. The saltiness blends well with the chocolate, and the spices lend a little warmth. The crunchy ramen noodles are an added bonus. I love this!"
  • "I think the ramen offers a great texture and is surprisingly not weird."
  • "Pretty subtle; the ramen flavor itself doesn't come through very strong with the chocolate. But you occasionally get big bites of noodle, which add a lot of textural interest. It basically reminds me of a Crunch bar with ramen instead of rice."
  • We also tried the tortilla lime + salt milk chocolate bar. That one did not get as positive of a response. The biggest complaint being that the lime flavor was too strongly artificial. But nonetheless, we're still impressed with Komforte Chockolates. We can't wait to see what they come up with next.

If you want to try a bar, you can get them online for just $3.49 a bar.
