Rush Limbaugh: The Musical?

Rush Limbaugh: The Musical?

Move over, Rod. The folks at Second City are moving on to an even bigger...character: Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh! The Musical hits Chicago this month.

Following the success of Rod Blagojevich Superstar!, the team at Second City Theatricals decided to tackle the conservative radio host with a knack for infuriating large numbers of people.

The show premiers Jan. 31, but is already generating a lot of heat from Limbaugh lovers and haters alike.

Mark Sutton, who will play Limbaugh in the production, started a blog about getting into "the character"--which brought some Limbaugh fans out of the woodwork. In one post, "My Fair Limbaugh," Sutton explains to readers that they should not jump to conclusions about the musical's script, which they have not seen, and that comedy is not always fair:

Comedy isn't fair. Comedy has never been fair. Comedy is an outburst, a rage, a microscope...but it's not fair. When you tell a joke about a Priest, do you immediately tell one about a Rabbi in order to be "fair." No...you tell jokes because they are funny. Second City has made fun of Race, Gender, Politics, Religion, War, Peace, Sports, Sex and EVERY sitting President in the last 50 years.
And we have to "be careful" with Rush Limbaugh??

The musical follows Limbaugh from "humble beginnings" to his "ascent to conservative dominance" and features other right wing staples such as Ann Coulter, Karl Rove, and Donald Rumsfeld.

Though Limbaugh's comments last week urging Americans NOT to give to Haiti relief efforts are so not funny, we are sure the Second City crew can make us smile between cringes.
