Kyle Maynard, Quadruple Amputee, To Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro

Kyle Maynard was born without arms or legs below his elbows and knees. He is a congenital, quadruple amputee, but he's also much more.

Maynard, 25, is a best-selling author of "No Excuses: The True Story of a Congenital Amputee Who Became a Champion in Wrestling and in Life," a highly sought-after motivational speaker, a champion weight lifter, and an Abercrombie and Fitch model.

The Washington, D.C., native's newest goal? Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, CNN reports. Why? Simply to prove he can.

"I've never experienced anything like this...I've never experienced anything this long [and] grueling," Maynard tells the news outlet.

Maynard plans to scale the famed peak this January with a team of two disabled veterans. He will bear crawl all 19,340 feet of the tallest mountain in Africa.

The wrestling champion has fashioned his own gear for the climb, creating durable padding from silicone and foam padding and pieces of mountain bike tires, to protect his limbs from the harsh terrain.

His disability is "the greatest gift [he's] ever been given," Maynard tells CNN.
