Pizza is now a vegetable and Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne are award-winning educators. Did they spend time in another country teaching at-risk students to read and write? Nope.
South Florida-based Better Education Place (BEP) bestowed the hip-hop acts with the honorary degrees because of the sway they have over children, reports Broward New Times's County Grind blog.
According to the press release, Minaj and Weezy, along with actual teachers, were judged on: ability to capture and maintain attention, the ability to move their audience or create interaction, the ability to inspire, effective use of language, use of memory devices, ability to transform behavior or make them do as you do, and the quality of the content. Melvin El, CEO of BEP, told New Times:
They're teaching them better -- in many cases -- than teachers in the classrooms. Of course they were waning on the content -- they weren't teaching the things that would make kids successful in life, but again, the point that my team was making is that they're teaching kids in an abundant way.
He cited that kids "can sing almost every song on the radio, particularly rap. I've seen them repeat complex lyrics from rap songs that I couldn't even do." So here are some of the lessons imparted by BEP's Teachers of the Year.

Not that anyone is paying too much attention to honors bestowed by BEP. Florida's Department of Education shows reputable taste when they pick their annual Teacher of Year. But when schools pick their own, they run into some trouble.
Earlier this year, a Mount Dora High School Teacher of the Year was reassigned after he posted homophobic Facebook comments after gay marriage was approved in New York.
His exact words: "But don't insult a man and woman's marriage by throwing it in the same cesspool as same-sex whatever! God will not be mocked. When did this sin become acceptable???"
