The GOP's Latest Effort To Win Over Women Voters

)

A new Republican political action committee aimed at targeting female voters kicked-off its efforts in Texas on Wednesday, Politico reports.

The PAC, called RedState Women, will work to change the narrative that Democrats inevitably win over a majority of women voters in elections, Executive Director Cari Christman told Politico. The group's launch comes as Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) has gained national attention for her gubernatorial bid and become perhaps the most prominent female politician in the state.

“It’s no secret that when Ms. Davis launched her bid for governor, women participating on the Democratic side stood up and were very vocal about her actions,” Christman said. “A number of Republican women are standing up to say Ms. Davis does not speak for them. We want to change, revolutionize, the way we communicate with women in this party. To stand up and say, ‘Democrats don’t corner the market on women.’”

Christman also said the organization won't focus solely on reproductive rights issues.

“It’s not just about, are you pro-life or pro-choice,” she said. “It’s a lot more than that. Women have a wide range of interests. We want to make sure we reach them.”

The PAC's website, which features a a plush red chair prodding visitors to "Become A Red State Woman," hosts a video of Texas Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick, who says she was the youngest Republican women ever elected to statewide office in the Lone Star State.

“The Republican women in this state built this party, if you look at the history of the party," Craddick says in the video. "I’m a Red State woman because this is where I work, this is where I want to raise my child. These are the values that this state embodies.”

The PAC's launch follows this week's introduction of another women-oriented PAC, the national RightNow Women PAC, which will support Republican women candidates running for Congress. Republicans have also recently created a firm aimed at outreach to women voters, called Burning Glass Consulting, while the National Republican Congressional Committee continues with a new effort, Project GROW, which is "designed to promote the role of women" within the party.

UPDATE -- 2:20 p.m.:

Davis' campaign spokesman, Zac Petkanas, linked the formation of the new group to Davis' opponent, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott (R) in a statement released to HuffPost.

"After Greg Abbott alienated women voters by campaigning with an admitted sexual predator and taking a 62% pay raise while fighting against equal pay for women, it's no wonder DC Republicans are hitting the panic button in Texas," Petkanas wrote. "However, they won't be able to cover up the clear choice voters have between Wendy Davis' commitment to economic fairness for all hardworking Texans and Greg Abbott's abysmal record for women."
