Facebook Music In Ticker: Listen With Your Friends

Facebook Lets Users Share Song--Instantly

Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook's much buzzed-about new music feature at the f8 conference in San Francisco on Thursday.

Facebook has partnered with streaming services like Spotify and Rdio to let users discover new song as their friends are listening to them.

Here's how it works: Facebook's new Ticker feature, which let you monitor friends' activities in real time, will display an update telling you when a friend is listening to a song. If a friend plays 'Titanium' by David Guetta on spotify, you'll see that update in your ticker. "You just see it flow by on the side of your news feed...and you discover a lot of interesting stuff this way," Zuckerberg said.

You can click on the update to start listening to the song; then, a chat window will open, letting you engage with that friend as you both enjoy the song together. All this happens within Facebook.

"Being able to click on someone's music and play it is a great experience, but knowing that you helped a friend discover something new, and that you have the same taste in music, is awesome," Zuckerberg also said.

Facebook also unveiled a totally new profile, an updated Open Graph, and much, much more. Take a look at our live coverage of f8 to see what else Facebook shared.
