In the June issue of the Journal of Lipid Research (huh?) there’s an excellent article that you’ll hear about in the so-called mainstream media in a couple days.

When you do see this story they’ll use it as a “throw-away” or pretend that it’s only relevant to the experimental animals in the study. Nothing could be further from the truth. Understanding the types of fat in your diet will save your life. Feeding your kids differently will change behavior and school performance.

The article documents that increased levels of omega-6 fatty acids in animals’ brains leads to signs of depression. Omega-6 fatty acids are found in meat and most of the oils we use in America.

The American diet is extremely high in omega-6 fatty acids. The ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids is between 20 to 1 and 50 to 1.

Cancer prevention and heart disease can be prevented by lowering this ratio to 1:1 or, at worst 4:1

Eat more walnuts, flax seeds and flax seed oil.

Children, teens and adults who eat a lot of meat, cheese, too much grain, vegetable oils, baked goods, margarine and greasy foods have a greater tendency to depression. Purified fish oil could change all of this.

Ask your doctor. If he doesn’t know the relationship between omega-3, omega-6 fatty acids and behavior, fire him.
