After playing in gack and attending glittering galas, Michelle Obama got back down to business on Monday with an event at the White House.

The First Lady wore neat white blouse and a teal skirt to address an audience about women in STEM careers (science, technology, engineering and math).

"You shouldn't be penalized or lose a chance to advance in your career because you are taking care of a new child, or a mom or dad who has gotten sick," Mrs. Obama said during her address.

She was referring to new rules, drafted by the National Science Foundation, that would allow both men and women postpone or suspend their research grants in order to address family needs, such as child-rearing.

The First Lady praised these changes, saying, "If we take some practical, common-sense steps, we can keep these women in the (science and math) pipeline where we so desperately need them," according to AP.
