It's been a while since I posted. My apologies.
To be honest I've just been too busy to write, but now its serving as relaxation. Please excuse this blog veers off the regular topic.
A few weeks ago I got invited into a business development StartUp Bootcamp in Copenhagen. The idea is simply that you get great mentorship by some top business minds, and in 3 months time you have to do your best Steve Jobs, and present in front of 100 investors -- a real life Dragons' Den scenario.
So with that, I quit my day job in Dublin, and here I am in Copenhagen on a 3'month adventure. Already the change of scenery has stirred my thinking.
It's a very strange feeling to have created a concept that has naturally spread around the world but to have not succeeded in raising a basic revenue stream from it. But don't feel bad for us, some of the worlds biggest websites are in a equally tricky spot :-)
When I meet people they either presume a/ we are doing very well... as we have locations all over the world... or b/ they simply ask... 'so how do you make money?'. The question makes me feel a little sad.
Why sad? Well our idea wasn't initially created with money being the objective. We just wanted to film bands on our balcony. But as things move on, people wonder why you continue to do something if there is no money involved. It's obviously a symptom of our society for better and for worse.
There are 10 other small 'startup' companies in the bootcamp. They range quite dramatically. One company is trying to be the new Google, while another company is all about Video Avatars.
I have learned that there is a thriving StartUp movement in Europe and phrases like 'bootstrapping' are becoming common to me. I never heard that word before mind.
The experience is like being back at school.

How does one make revenue out of content?
