La Toya Jackson: New Memoir 'Starting Over' Chronicles Abuse By Ex-Husband Jack Gordon

La Toya Jackson, the fifth of nine Jackson children, is experiencing a resurgence of sorts. Sure, she's released nine albums throughout her decades-long career, and appeared on several reality TV shows, most recently "Celebrity Apprentice," where she was the first contestant in the show's history to be fired twice in the same season. But her latest project, a new memoir, just might be her most memorable venture yet--or at least the most buzzed-about.

In “Starting Over,” which hit shelves last month, she details her abuse at the hand of ex-husband--and former manager--Jack Gordon and theorizes about brother Michael’s untimely death (spoiler: she believes he was murdered). Jackson opened up to Huffington Post Divorce recently about her tumultuous relationship with her ex, which she says was defined by severe ongoing physical and mental abuse.

"He always promised to kill me or kill my brother if I didn’t do what he wanted me to do," she said of Gordon, who died of cancer in 2005. “My mother thought he was giving me mind-altering drugs."

Though she was initially hesitant to write the book, Jackson was encouraged by women in similar situations to put her experiences on paper.

“I want every woman out there to know, if a guy hits you one time, that’s one too many,” she said.
