Joshua Stump Charged For Selling Marijuana To 12-Year-Old

Basalt Man Charged For Selling Marijuana To A 12-Year-Old (VIDEO)

Joshua Brooks Stump, a 20-year-old resident of Basalt, Colorado, was charged Monday with two felony counts connected to selling a 12-year-old boy marijuana.

Stump was arrested after Basalt Police were alerted by Basalt Middle School faculty to two sixth-grade students smoking marijuana on the school grounds. When confronted, one of the students was unwilling to divulge his source for marijuana, citing a fear of getting beat up.

The boy's grandmother learned the name of the alleged source, Joshua Stump, and reported it to police the next day.

The Aspen Times reports that Stump did not have an attorney at the hearing. "To be honest," he told the judge, "I just don't understand the charges."

A report from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services found that, among lifetime marijuana users aged 18 or older, 2.1% first smoked marijuana before age 12.

An acquaintance of Stump told HuffPost Denver, "He's a good kid, he just needs to find his way."
