Someone Jumped In Front Of The L Train Wednesday

Various reports indicate that someone jumped in front of the L train at Union Square at 11:30 this morning, according to the Gothamist.

A wire report indicates the jumper was dead on arrival and various straphangers turned witnesses took to twitter to report the chaos.

Matt Kays tweeted, "Union Square freaking out. We all saw someone just jump in front of L train. Everyone is in hysterics. This is so sad so insane! Shaking." And Kimi Selfridge says "something scary going down at the bk bound 14 st L train.. paramedics everywhereee."

An online MTA service announcement that, according to Gothamist, stated, "Due to a police investigation at the 14th Street-Union Square Station, there is no train service in both directions from the Bedford Avenue Station to the 8th Avenue Station." has since been taken down.

Union Square is New York's fourth busiest subway station.

In each of the three years from 2006 to 2009, there were between 89 and 98 people hit by MTA trains in New York City, according to The New York Daily News.
