We live in a world where it's all too easy to be overwhelmed on a daily basis. As we enter this holiday season, the recent tragedies of Beirut and Paris are heartbreaking on a large scale.
At the same time, in our own lives, we're faced with the demands of working, shopping, cooking, and caring for our families and friends.
Add the stress of the holidays to the mix, and it's a recipe for exhaustion.
So as the pace of our world continues to speed up, I invite you to do something radical this holiday season: choose to honor the true spirit of the season, which is all about love and presence (as opposed to presents).
Here's what you can choose instead:
- Slowing down.
As we head towards the winter solstice and its shortened daylight, our bodies naturally want to rest more. The frenzy of the consumeristic and extraverted holiday festivities is out of synch with our natural impulse to slow down and go more internal.
So please be easy on yourself, and take a moment now to reflect on your personal intention for this holiday season. And I encourage you to give yourself permission to savor the holidays, without the holidaze.
