Ann Crall was sentenced to 90 days in jail for collecting almost $60,000 while faking she had cancer.
Crall, 31, is married to a former officer with the Lakewood Police Department who resigned after his wife was indicted in September of 2010. Many of her donors were colleagues of her husband in the LPD.
The indictment states that she was never diagnosed with cancer, but in 2005 she allegedly began telling people, including her husband, that had been diagnosed with cancer. More than 1,000 donations were made to the Crall family on her behalf.
Prosecutors said that Crall fabricated her cancer story in order to support her addiction to prescription drugs.
She continued the stint for at least four years until 2009 when the Lakewood Employees Assistance Foundation grew concerned that she might not have cancer.
Since the indictment, Crall's lengthy criminal record has come out and includes drug possession, fraud, counterfeiting, distribution of drugs, and obtaining drugs by way of fraud.
An excerpt from Crall's plea to the judge during her sentence hearing:
I was sick. I was lying. I was deceitful. I loved them. The people I've hurt the most are the people I loved the most. I've taken all their trust. And I wish I could hand it back. I've taken my husband's career. What I've done is horrible, it's beyond comprehension. I can't tell you how mush disgust and guilt I live with. I never set out to do this. It was never a big concoction of a plan. There were many lies.
