Early Voting Sites Reopen After Blizzard

GAME ON: Early Voting Sites Reopen After Blizzard

Two days after a blizzard that dumped more than 20 inches of snow on Chicago, election officials said they will reopen early voting locations throughout the city.

The 50 early voting sites in Chicago neighborhoods have been closed since Tuesday, but WBEZ reports that they will be up and running Friday.

"We couldn't get employees to those locations," Jim Allen, spoksman for the Chicago Board of Elections told WBEZ. "Even if we did get employees to those locations, it's very doubtful that voters would have been able to get to those locations."

Allen said the election board's downtown office remained open on Wednesday and Thursday, but only 50 people showed up to cast ballots.

Early voting continues through Thursday, February 17, in advance of the election on the 22nd.

All locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for the Lincoln's Birthday holiday on February 11. Three locations -- Welles Park in the 47th Ward, Mount Greenwood Park in the 19th, and the Board of Elections offices downtown -- will be open seven days a week, including the holiday.

Voters need only to be registered, and to provide a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.).

Check out a map of all the early voting locations, as compiled by Scott VanDenPlas. One change: the 19th Ward is now at Mount Greenwood Park, as mentioned, not at the 22nd Police District as the map shows.
