The 10 Companies Sued Most In Federal Court: Institutional Risk Analytics (PHOTOS)

The Most Sued Companies In America

Believe it or not, BP, which oversaw the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history, did not draw the most federal lawsuits in 2010.

Industrial firms topped the list of most sued companies in 2010, according to federal records quoted by Institutional Risk Analytics.

But while claims against industrial giants were falling, claims against banks most involved in the mortgage crisis rocketed. Bank of America topped the list of banks, with claims up 300 percent, jumping from just under 800 at the height of the property boom in 2007, to 3000 last year. Claims were similarly up against other banks exposed to the mortgage crisis.

Despite the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, BP ranks low on the list with just 52 suits because most of the claims against the British company are made in state courts on the Gulf, where it's considered a domestic corporation.
