Why Mark Wahlberg Stopped Smoking Pot

Mark Wahlberg gave up a life of crime long ago, but it wasn't the police that got him to quit marijuana -- it was his daughter.

On stage to accept Variety's Indie Impact Award, Wahlberg pretended like the trophy was a bong before quickly clearing up that he was saying no to drugs.

"I stopped smoking weed for my kids," he told the crowd Sunday morning (via E! Online). "One day, we were driving and you could smell it from somewhere. My daughter asked what the smell was so I told her it was a skunk. Then she said, 'Sometimes Daddy smells like that!' to me and my wife. So I knew I had quit."

Marky Mark and the funky smell?

Wahlberg had a long rap sheet as a kid, estimating that he had run-ins 20-25 times with the Boston police. Addicted to cocaine and other drugs, he ran with a street gang and was charged with attempted murder -- pleading guilty to assault.

And while it took a short stint in jail to end the crime spree, being a father to four children -- Ella Rae, 7; Michael Robert, 4; Brendan Joseph, 2; and Grace Margaret, 1, with wife Rhea Durham, finally led him to kick the last habit.
