Western Slope DA Resigns After Sexual Harassment Charges

Embattled Western Slope DA Myrl Serra submitted his letter of resignation to Governor-elect Hickenlooper on Tuesday in the wake of various sexual misconduct charges.

Serra, who has served as 7th District DA since 2007, was charged in November with felony unlawful sexual contact, felony criminal extortion and five misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and unlawful sexual contact.

Serra has maintained his innocent of these charges.

"Although many residents encouraged me to remain in my position, I have made the decision in that the quick resolution to the underlying issues I had hoped for have not occurred," Serra wrote.

His resignation will be effective at 12:01 on January 11, the day Hickenlooper is set to be sworn in.
