Fall Trends For the Home, Beauty, Fashion and Food

With fashion, color trends are at long last shifting from the bright and bold and soft pastel to a muted mix that lands a bit in between: mustard yellow, toned down orange, and navy blue, along with what's already arrived in full force, olive green.

The fall season is just around the corner! In a few more weeks the weather will start to change, time for cozy sweaters and hot chocolate, changing leaves and all the other amazing things that the season brings every year.

It also means a crop of new trends across the lifestyle category. Whether you're a foodie, fashion lover, beauty junkie or are planning an update to any space or spot at home, there are plenty of fresh ideas and new products for fall this year.

With fashion, color trends are at long last shifting from the bright and bold and soft pastel to a muted mix that lands a bit in between: Mustard yellow, toned down orange, and navy blue, along with what's already arrived in full force, olive green. You don't need to over-invest in a new wardrobe -- just add a piece or two in. Select based on your existing items -- for example, if you've got a ton of statement or pastel pink from past seasons, olive green or navy can pair well with it. Neutral tones will be back again but as a trend this color palette is starting to wane. Expect to see a lot of blush tones once more this season.

In terms of items, the heel has at long last shaken off the stiletto and sky high for chunkier, block styles and short kitten heels. It'll still be a great year for flats of all kinds as well -- the chunky loafer will be the most popular along with summer's favorite, the pointed toe. The moto jacket is also at long last starting to transition out. Polished coats of all kinds will be the replacement, particularly the trench. Play with the trend with a chic print versus a solid, though there will be plenty of solid colors, too. Denim's also getting an update -- not just in the form of tops, skirts, etc. but jeans are loosening up again this season. Wide leg is the fresh look, boot cut and flares returning. In terms of accessories, structured bags, patchwork leather and suede are on trend this season. Suede is also the season's update to leather -- faux suede today is often as good as the real deal for those looking for vegan or budget friendly.

With food, there is a resurgence of timeless American classics at the moment -- doughnuts, ice cream, etc., reinvented with funky flavors and unexpected combinations. Waffles are also trending, and soups of all kinds will be coming back in a big way -- this time around with interesting combinations like chicken and lime, heirloom tomato, and other fresh takes on the classics. Interesting water infusions are also very popular -- sage, rosemary, and other unique blends. The juice trend is hanging around as well, though with eye-popping prices it seems it might be waning a bit. It's still a favorite here.

In the home, bold, bright pink is carrying along into fall. It can be in the form of a simple, single wall painted in the color, or all the walls for a more statement look. The same is present with furniture and accessories or decor items -- one pop piece, or a bunch combined. Black walls continue to linger, though it's shifting to navy a bit as the fall season rolls around. Lilac is trending. In terms of furniture, mid century and modern styles are starting to shift to softer, rounder edges and lines, cozier furniture, etc. Old and new mixed together continues to be popular.

There isn't a new season without new beauty trends! For fall this year, olive green is also in the mix -- on the nails, or the eyes. Blue tones of all kinds for the eyes, sheer white for the nails. Pop hair colors are big again, though this may be the peak season for the look. Braids are returning, this time a bit more polished than the loose braid trends of the past, and hair accessories (clips, barrettes, headbands, etc.) are back in a big way. For the lips, bright pink and reds are shifting to orange tones, darker colors, etc.
