WHY: Schroeder Romero & Shredder Gallery's "Vivid" show covers a broad landscape. In about two dozen pieces, it ranges from Karen Heagle's affectionate "Studio Still-Life with Starfish" to the astral geometry of Barbara Takenaga's "Nebraska Painting (L1)." Given the theme--"Female Currents in Painting"--the variety is not surprising. But differentiation is the easy part; hints of commonality may be more challenging, and interesting, to spot.

Creating out of a "post-everything" sensibility, a dialogue with art history and the exploration of contemporary ideas are what unite the artists and their works. "Vivid: Female Currents in Painting", pays tribute to painting for painting's sake.
