At Cheapflights, we know the importance of keeping travel costs low and are always on the lookout for ways that travelers can save. After all, you don't have to spend a lot to plan a great trip. For the last six years we have done our research so you don't have to - ranking 101 of the most-searched U.S. airports by affordability to inspire your next vacation location.

For our annual index, we look at average airfares travelers found on our site during the month of June to a mix of popular domestic and international destinations and use the data to rank the 101 airports on the list.

There were quite a few surprises on the Sixth Annual Airport Affordability Index. The two most affordable airports in 2015, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International and Atlanta International, were #77 and #73 on last year's list respectively!

If you're looking to get out of the city this year, you're in luck! Atlanta, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia all broke into the top 10 in 2015 (none of which even cracked the top 30 last year!), making it a great time to get away from the city. Cheaper fares from major airports means more affordable travel for many coming from these popular departure points.

But with so many positions changing dramatically from our 2014 index, it's clearer than ever that smart budget travel requires a bit of homework. With flight prices constantly changing, savvy travelers do their research, keep an eye on prices and book when they find a great deal. Let this list inspire and guide you as you plan your next trip, finding cheaper ways to travel and alternative airports to cut costs.

See how your local airport stacks up and start planning your next escape.
