A bank robbery led to a police-involved shooting in south suburban Homewood Tuesday, where area polling places had to be temporarily closed as a precautionary measure.
Fox Chicago reports that two armed robbers entered a U.S. Bank branch at 18300 S. Kedzie Ave. and attempted a "takeover-style robbery" around 11:30 a.m.
As the heist was happening, local police arrived on the scene and reportedly exchanged gunfire with the robbers. One of the suspects was wounded and hospitalized. Fox reports that the second suspect was taken into police custody and the third--a getaway driver--remained at large Tuesday afternoon.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Cook County Clerk David Orr told HuffPost Chicago that polling places at a nearby schools were briefly shut down while police searched for the second suspect. The polls reopened shortly after, and no voters were injured.
Homewood police would not comment Tuesday afternoon.
The bank heist is not the first crime that affected voters Tuesday. In Chicago, the brother of State Sen. Antonio Munoz was struck by a hit-and-run driver outside a South Side polling station, the Chicago Tribune reports. The driver reportedly sped through the intersection, struck Martin Munoz, then drove off. Police were speaking with a "person of interest" Tuesday afternoon and Munoz was undergoing surgery at an area hospital.
