Colorado is blessed to be home to some of the country's most historic lodgings. For over a century, the state has been a playground of sorts for the country's wealthy. As a result, some of the state's oldest hotels have compiled impressive lists of historic guests.

Just eight Colorado hotels, however, have been named Historic Hotels of America, which was founded in 1989. To qualify for the list, hotels must be at least 50 years old, "and listed in, or eligible for, the National Register of Historic Places or recognized locally as having historic significance."

Over 200 hotels and resorts nationwide are current members of HHA.
