Florida Man Is Super Excited About Catching A 552-Pound Goliath Grouper

This is truly a David vs. Goliath battle.

Cape Coral resident Jon Black reeled in a massive, 552-pound goliath grouper last week that was nearly as big as Black's kayak.

As seen in the video above, Black's reaction to seeing the fish for the first time is priceless. When the fish makes a final slap to break free and snaps Black's pole, Black screams with a mixture of excitement, glee and fear.

"I thought it was going to kill me," he says in the video.

Black caught the grouper off the Sanibel Causeway in Florida while on a chartered fishing trip with Chew On This, which sends customers out in search of the famous goliath grouper fish.

As is required by Florida law, Black released the grouper. But before that, he measured it, finding it to be about 83 inches (almost 7 feet) long with a 73-inch (6 feet) girth. He used that information to estimate the fish's weight to be roughly 552 pounds, according to GrindTV.

"I can tell when he bit it was a big one," Black told NBC2 News, adding, "It was unreal to see him come up and the kayak made it even a wild ride like that."

While the goliath grouper that Black caught seems huge, the fish can get up to 800 pounds and 8 feet long. They have three to five rows of teeth in their mouths and have been known to -- rather unsuccessfully -- stalk swimming humans, making for some pretty terrifying close encounters.
