Robert Ritchey, 73, came home on June 21 to find that, after a violent storm, his home in Glenview, Illinois had lost power. His power was eventually restored, but not on the next day or even the day after that.
No, power was not restored until the following Wednesday evening, eight days after he had lost power, reports NBC Chicago, making Richie the last ComEd customer to get his power back.
Fidel Marquez Jr., ComEd's Senior Vice President of Customer Relations, has apologized to Mr. Richie and chalked up the situation to "a couple of human errors." Marquez told NBC that a ComEd dispatcher accidentally and prematurely marked Ritchey's power problems as "restored." ComEd did not return until Mr. Ritchey's son told the utility company that he was calling the media.
"It was quite embarrassing for all of us here. We just want to make sure it doesn't happen again," Marquez told the network.
Mr. Ritchey holds no ill will towards ComEd. "Things happen. It happens tomorrow. It happens next week. People make mistakes," he said.
