Exploring Unseen Forces In Religious, Spiritual Practice (All Together Podcast)

What Do God, Karma And Tarot Cards Have In Common?

Welcome to the latest ALL TOGETHER -- the podcast dedicated to exploring how ethics, religion and spiritual practice inform our personal lives, our communities and our world. ALL TOGETHER is hosted this week by Antonia Blumberg, associate editor of HuffPost Religion. You can download All Together on iTunes, or Stitcher.

This week's episode investigates the unseen forces that shape religious, spiritual and mystic experience. What moves us, what guides us and why do human beings never seem to have their fill of exploring the unknown?

An anthropologist, a religious leader and a diviner join us this week to discuss spiritual practices that come face to face with unseen forces -- encounters that can help bring us closer to the divine and even reach higher states of personal fulfillment.

Tanya Luhrmann is an anthropology professor at Stanford University and author of the 2012 book “When God Talks Back,” an ethnographic investigation of evangelical Christian communities and what happens when God becomes a real, interactive force in people’s lives. The second guest, Gadadhara Pandit Dasa, is a meditation teacher, lecturer and author of the book Urban Monk: Exploring Karma, Consciousness and the Divine.

Our final guest, Damon Stang, is a New York-based tarot card reader and self-identified witch who draws from various mystical traditions in his work. You can read more about Stang's background in a 2014 HuffPost Religion article on Brooklyn tarot card readers.

All three come from very different backgrounds and offer diverse perspectives of the unseen forces at play in spiritual practice. What unites them is an insatiable curiosity about faith and their enduring quests to illuminate the obscured faces of the divine.
