Get on the bag, Ferrell!

Will Ferrell will appear in five spring training games on Thursday and will play all nine positions when he does so, HBO announced Wednesday. The comedian will do so as part of a cancer awareness special that will be filmed by Funny Or Die and HBO in partnership with the MLB.

Ferrell's appearance at the Cactus League, which is the Arizona-based spring training league for half of the MLB's clubs, was first reported by USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale. Each game will take place at a different ballpark.

HBO confirmed Ferrell's network special, which will air later this year and feature various players and coaches from the league. MLB Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. praised Ferrell's upcoming appearance.

"Will is a big fan of our game, and many of us in baseball – among our clubs, players and our millions of fans – are big fans of his," Manfred said in a statement. "Major League Baseball is happy to take part in what will surely be a fun and memorable day for a great cause."

The special will aim to benefit various organizations focused on fighting cancer including Cancer for College, which helps those affected with cancer obtain a college education. Not confirmed in the statement is whether Ferrell will in fact use a helicopter for transportation between ballparks, as reported by Nightengale.

Here's a full schedule of Ferrell's day:

12:05 p.m. Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics (HoHoKam Stadium)
1:10 p.m. Chicago Cubs at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (Tempe Diablo Stadium)
2:10 p.m. Cincinnati Reds at Arizona Diamondbacks (Salt River Fields at Talking Stick)
4:05 p.m. San Francisco Giants at Chicago White Sox (Camelback Ranch)
6:15 p.m. Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres (Peoria Stadium)

Probably for the best that Ferrell will take the field rather than the stands. Fans may remember his take on a overzealous baseball parent from his SNL days.
