Iraqi Immigrant Taking Pictures Of His First Snowfall Shot Dead

An Iraqi immigrant was taking photographs of his first snowfall when an unknown assailant shot him dead, police in Dallas say.

Ahmed Al-Jumaili, 36, had moved to the United States to be with his wife three weeks before the fatal incident outside of an apartment building Wednesday night, CNN reports.

“Just like all of us, a pretty snowfall brings the child out in us,” Dallas police Maj. Jeff Cotner told the Dallas Morning News. “You can just imagine the excitement between his wife and his brother and himself as they were enjoying the snowfall.”

Investigators are actively searching for two to four suspects and have not released a motive for the shooting. Witnesses told police that a group of men "randomly fired" a gun and also hit some cars in the area, WFAA reports.

Al-Jumaili was just starting his life in the United States. ABC News reports:

The fundraising appeal tells the love story of Al-Jumaili and his wife, Zahara, who got married 16 months ago. At the time, they lived in Iraq -- but Zahara made the “painful” decision to move to America and live with her relatives in “what she believed to be a safer place,” the site said.

Less than a month ago, the site added, Al-Jumaili, who stayed in Iraq “to continue working and save finances” reunited with his wife in Dallas.

A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the victim's assailants. Anyone with information is asked to call Dallas homicide detectives at 214-671-3624.
