Sarah Palin-Backed Karen Handel Faces Nathan Deal In Georgia Gubernatorial Runoff

ATLANTA (AP)-- Georgia's bruising three-week runoff election is drawing to a close as voters return to the polls to select a Republican nominee for governor.

Former Secretary of State Karen Handel and ex-U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal are vying for the GOP nod. The winner will face Democrat Roy Barnes in the November general election.

Voters who cast a Republican ballot in last month's primary can vote in Tuesday's GOP contest. So can registered voters who didn't vote in the primary. But those who cast a Democratic ballot are barred from casting a Republican ballot in the runoff.

Twenty-two percent of active registered voters in Georgia cast a ballot in the gubernatorial primary. Turnout is expected to be even lower for the runoff.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.
