Amy And Adam Korst: Couple Goes Trash Free For A Year (VIDEO)

WATCH: Couple Goes Trash Free For A Year

KGW brings us this video from Dallas, Oregon, where one couple has managed to go trash free for an entire year.

Amy and Adam Korst made the pledge to stop contributing garbage to landfills on July 6th, 2009 and blog about their experience. A year later, and the only waste they have to show from that time is a small box of scraps that Amy estimates to be around four pounds. By comparison, Amy says the average American produces four and a half pounds of trash per day.

The feat wasn't as difficult as some might imagine, according to Amy. The couple recycles everything, composts, cans their own food from their own garden, and also buys from local growers. If a product is packaged in something that isn't recyclable, they don't buy it.

"If everybody made that really simple change to look at the packaging before they buy it, and buy the most recyclable option, you'd drastically reduce your waste," Amy says.
