Jorge Pardo's Bulgogi

The opening reception for a new mixed media installation by Jorge Pardo entitled Bulgogi. The exhibition takes its name from a traditional Korean dish which Pardo uses as a metaphor for Korean immigration and cultural assimilation in Los Angeles.

Soundings: Bells at the Hammer
Hammer Museum (Westwood)

The Hammer Museum and Machine Project invite the public to participate in a day-long sound installation, everyone in a place, by composer Chris Kallmyer. All visitors will be issued a small bell, which they can wear as they move through the galleries, courtyard, lobby, and other public spaces, and will be accompanied by additional bell related sound pieces including circulating ice cream carts, animatronic Santa bells, and an African bell ensemble. Admission to the museum will be free of charge to all participants.

The opening reception for artist Kori Newkirk in the gallery's ongoing project series. Newkirk presents works that touch upon fracture, abstraction, labor, the body, science and science fiction while simultaneously ignoring, questioning and commenting on the modernist architecture of the gallery in Rudolf Schindler's 1934 Buck House.
