"Peter Pan Live!" fell hard in the ratings on Thursday night when compared to last year's "Sound of Music Live!" According to early reports, the three-hour NBC show garnered 2.3/7 in the 18-49 demographic , which was a a significant drop from the Carrie Underwood-fronted special in 2013.

"Sound of Music Live!" ended up with 18.5 million viewers total, and neared 22 million including DVR plays. NBC reports that "Peter Pan Live!" had 9.1 million viewers overall from 8-11 p.m. ET, but these results are still early and have not calculated returns yet.

However, Variety notes that the the telecast was a 111-percent increase over NBC's current season for a Thursday night (sorry, network TV shows). In a statement, NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt called the event "a great night for NBC."

"We didn’t expect to reach the same rating as 'The Sound of Music' since that was the first live movie event of its kind in over 50 years," he said. "But the high wire act of Peter Pan was a joy for everyone involved and I take my hat off to Allison Williams, Christopher Walken, the entire company, and our incredible directors and producers for three months of the hardest work I’ve ever seen. I love these live events and we’re already working on putting the next one together."
