Blackhawks Parade Kicks Off Friday Morning Downtown

Chicagoans will be taking their lunch breaks early Friday morning as the Chicago Blackhawks victory parade kicks off downtown.

About 10:30 a.m., a parade will begin at the intersection of Wacker Drive and Washington Street, proceed east to Michigan Avenue, then up Michigan to East Wacker Drive, where a rally will take place between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., the Chicago Tribune reports.

The winning team and other members of the Blackhawks organizations will ride double-decker buses along the parade route.

When the Chicago White Sox won the World Series in 2005, 350,000 people celebrated downtown during a parade, the Tribune reports. That was the last time a Chicago sports team won a title--until last night. Organizers are expecting a similar size crowd Friday.

Those in town for the Blackhawks celebration (or for the Crosstown Classic which is also this weekend) should be prepared for heavy traffic during Friday's event, and CTA buses and trains might be extra full.

The rally is expected to wrap up by 1 p.m.
