This is what brotherly love looks like.
Eric Hale, 45, of Bend, Oregon won the $1 million Powerball jackpot late last month, Fox12 reported. After discovering his win, he immediately called his brother, Quinn, not just to notify him of the good news, but to inform him that he'd be splitting the money with him -- something he had told his brother he would do when they were children.
"When I was a kid, I promised my brother that if I ever won the lottery, I would split it with him. He was my first call when I realized I won," Eric said in a statement released by the lottery.
Quinn said he was overwhelmed that his brother stayed true to his word after all those years.
“I still am in shock even though we have the checks. This is beyond cool. I never believed he would actually do it,” Quinn said.
Eric won the lottery by playing the same numbers he's used for the past 20 years, according to the Oregon Lottery. Though he missed the Powerball number, he picked the five matching ones, making him the second $1 million Powerball winner in Oregon this year.
The lucky brothers, whose winnings come out to about $335,000 each after taxes, have each made plans as to how they'll spend their new wealth. Eric wishes to take a 20-day trip to China, pursue a Master's degree in clinical counseling and invest some of the money, according to the Bend Bulletin. Quinn, who is currently pursuing a doctorate, plans on paying off his student loans, and putting money toward a down payment on a motor home.
