After being in danger of falling to the undercard debate, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) narrowly made the cut for Tuesday's primetime Republican debate.
CNN, which is hosting the debate in Las Vegas, announced the lineup on Sunday.
As expected, real estate mogul Donald Trump, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio), former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, and Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) will all participate in the primetime debate, which begins at 8:30 pm EST.
Unlike in previous debates, candidates could qualify on the basis of polls in the early voting states of Iowa and New Hampshire, as well as a select group of national polls. To make the main stage, candidates had to receive an average of at least 3.5 percent in the national polls or 4 percent in either Iowa or New Hampshire.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.), former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and former New York Gov. George Pataki (R) will face off in the undercard debate at 6 p.m EST. Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore (R) was once again left off, having failed to make any debate since the first one held this summer.
