Steve Guttenberg Regrets Turning Down Lead 'Sharknado' Role

'80s Icon Says He 'Made A Mistake' Turning Down 'Sharknado' Role

Steve Guttenberg has standards for roles, he told HuffPost Live on Wednesday, and therefore he turns down many offers. One of those came in the form of SyFy's surprise hit franchise "Sharknado."

Famous for his performances in the "Police Academy" movies and "Short Circuit," Guttenberg stopped by HuffPost Live to chat about his new film, "Affluenza," which came out July 11. The conversation turned to roles Guttenberg rebuffed.

"I got to tell you, I made a mistake. I turned down 'Sharknado,'" Guttenberg told host Ricky Camilleri. "They came to me, and I should've done it because it was a huge hit. It was a crazy movie."

"Sharknado" — a movie successful largely because of how ludicrous it is — was not the only success Guttenberg passed on. He also turned down hits like "Ghostbusters 2" and "Big," to name a couple.
