Actor Chris Pine is best known for playing the archetypal pilot of the future, Captain James T. Kirk, in J.J. Abrams' recent "Star Trek" movies. We just caught our first glimpse of his role in the upcoming "Wonder Woman" movie, though, and it looks like he'll be summoning the past rather than blasting into the future this time around.

French actor Saïd Taghmaoui tweeted out a photo of himself and Chris Pine in costume for the movie -- then quickly took it down. But not before a speedy superhero fan grabbed it. Here's the pic:

Relatively little is known about "Wonder Woman" at this point; it's not slated for release until June 23, 2017, after all, and filming just began. But that hasn't stopped fans from speculating about Pine and Taghmaoui's intriguingly old-style costumes. The leading theory is that Pine plays two different characters in the movie: Wonder Woman's love interest Steve Trevor and Trevor's identical-looking grandpa, a World War I-era pilot who discovers Wonder Woman on the island of the Amazons. And this photo, therefore, would be from the earlier plot.

We may get slightly more clarity about all this next spring, in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." Both it and "Wonder Woman" are part of the same DC Cinematic Universe, and Wonder Woman, played by Israeli actress Gal Gadot, will appear in both movies. For now, though, speculation about Pine's character is just rumors.

Not a rumor, though? He rocks that side-swept hair and leather jacket pretty well.
