The Women's World Cup Champs Didn't Get A Sports Illustrated Cover -- They Got 25 Of 'Em

A single Sports Illustrated cover just wouldn't do them justice.

The members of the U.S. Women's National Team have been making history like it's their job.

A single Sports Illustrated cover just wouldn't do justice to the first team to win three Women's World Cup championships. So SI made the unprecedented decision to give the squad 25 different covers: one for each team member, one for the coach and a special subscriber version featuring a group shot.

"We could go two ways: a team shot, which seemed a little conventional here, or something different and fresh: honoring not just one or two players, but all 23 of them with their own cover," said Chris Stone, the magazine's managing editor.

The SI crew managed to steal enough time with each of the players last week, when the team was in New York City for a victory parade held in its honor.

"It all added up to a little piece of history, the first shoot of its kind in SI history," Stone noted.

You can see what the covers for the undisputed best player in the world, Carli Lloyd, as well as Alex Morgan and a very excited Julie Johnston, look like below.
