Mom Says Daughter Attacked Her After Reading 'Slender Man' Stories

An Ohio mother says that her 13-year-old daughter attacked her with a knife possibly because of an obsession with the fictional character Slender Man.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was slashed by her daughter in the kitchen of their home in Hamilton County, WLWT reports. The mother suffered a puncture wound in her back and cuts on her face and neck.

“I came home one night from work and she was in the kitchen waiting for me and she was wearing a mask, a white mask,” she told the station.

"[She] mentioned playing a role," the mother said. "[I] got the feeling she was playing a role. It didn't feel like her at all.”

The mother believes her daughter, who has mental health problems, was influenced by tales of Slender Man, the same character who allegedly inspired two 12-year-olds in Waukesha, Wisconsin, to attack another girl.

“We found things that she had written and she made reference to Slender Man. She also made references to killing,” the woman told WLWT. “She even created a world for Slender Man in the game Minecraft.”

Slender Man, a paranormal being created by Eric Knudsen, is portrayed as a lanky man with a black suit and no face. The character gravitates towards forests and kills or carries off victims. Since the character's inception, other writers and artists have produced their own versions of Slender Man stories.

Knudsen has said he was "deeply saddened" by the Wisconsin attack. David Morales, the administrator of Creepypasta, the website where the two Wisconsin girls read about Slender Man, told the Associated Press last week that his website clearly states all stories are fiction.

"We are not teaching children to believe in a fictional monster, nor are we teaching them to be violent," he said.

Morales also noted that the site's rules state that children under 13 should not be reading it.
