Typeface Flowchart Helps You Pick The Perfect Font (PICTURE)

Graphic design student Julian Hansen has created a creative infographic that condenses 100 years of type-design history into a humorous and helpful flowchart that guides laypeople through the process of picking an appropriate font.

Each branch of the flowchart starts with a type of media (newspaper, logo, infograph, etc) and ends with a typeface based on the artist's preferences. The user is posed attitude-inflected questions along the way, such as, "You cried when watching Terminator?" or "How about something a bit fancy?"

"The different branches in the decision tree represent entire schools of thought about the uses and the theory of type," Fast Company explains. "At the end of every decision tree, you get the typeface itself. Thus, you can see how terms like "humanism" are applied in type design--and the subtle differences between the Dutch and Swiss schools."
