Kumbh Mela UNDERWAY: Millions Of Hindus Converge For World's LARGEST Religious Festival (PHOTOS)

Millions of Hindus converged Wednesday, April 14, on the banks of the Ganges River for Kumbh Mela, the world's largest religious festival.

The New York Times reported that an estimated 10 million people entered the river for one of the most auspicious days of the festival, which ends on April 28. Devotees believe that bathing in the river cleanses them of sin and frees them from the cycle of life and rebirth.

Kumbh Mela began on January 13 in Haridwar, a city in Northern India. The festival is held every three years and rotates between four Indian cities: Prayag (Allahabad), Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik.
